Prisons in German-speaking countries and the Scandinavian way of humane detention

Prisons in German-speaking countries are full and the prison conditions are often inhumane. Critics speak of “poverty punishment” and point to a danger to society when cruelty is demanded and celebrated as a deserved punishment. “Every perspective of social development, human rights and morality” is in danger of being lost sight of. Scandinavian countries show that there is another way.
